This thread is now more than 2 years old. Has no one lost their bookmarks since?
I did!

First off, I am bowled over that in the two pages before this message only one person mentioned their version of Chrome: 0.3.xxxx. Ouch, that's a prehistoric beta. It is now Nov 23, 2010 and in the ensuing 26 months Google apparently raced through a thousand upgrades and we are now at version 8.0.552.210 beta. Wow!  No wonder none of the stuff mentioned and posted works anymore. Mark Clouden's ChromeDump program crashes at the fourth line with a "table not found" message. That means the history file has become more complex since Mark wrote the program.
Since he doesn't appear to support it anymore, is there any other way a hapless victim of a computer crash can recover her bookmarks?

Is there any update, inflrmation or help that I can get to rescue my 9 Mb history file?

Thanks in advance for any help.

@Cathleann, care to upload your history file? (Or, you can email it to me, PM me if you want my email address.) I'll see what I can do for you.

Typelife, thanks for the offer but I am a little paranoid about google's huge presence online and getting its beady hands on my history file. My kids sometimes use the computer and I have no idea what subversive sites (or worse) they have been to, so with respect, I must decline the offer.
It was in fact the bookmark file that stopped working, everything appeared to have gone but the bookmark file was still in the default folder. So, I backed up the Current Session and Last Session[/b] files and the Current SessionLast Tab files and then cleared the tabs.

With nothing open I clicked the wrench icon and opened bookmark manager.
It was all there.

Then I reinstated the Current Session and Current Tabs files. Opening the Bookmark manager failed.
Renamed the files again and reinstated Last Session and Last Tabs files.
Then it worked.

What changed? And why do bookmarks disappear from Chrome when the system shuts off ungracefully?

I'm not sure the exact specifics of what causes the saved files you have to not work with each other, but I would guess that something to do with the Current Session file doesn't match up with what Google Chrome is expecting when you try to access its features.

But regardless, you can use the method in the original post of this thread to access your history, but not your bookmarks. You can open your 'Bookmarks' file in a text editor and see those. I'm updating the original post of this thread with corrected instructions to view your history.

Thanks for pointing that out Spencer, I updated the original post to reflect how to export bookmarks in the new Chromium builds or future versions of Google Chrome. Is there anything more required in the query?  Seems like it is missing something,  or did I target the wrong file?
