Why are there two chrome.exe running?

None of my other browsers do this..Is this supposed to happen or should I redownload it as it's not normal? The first time I checked up Chrome on the task manager there was only one exe running (apparently).

There technically should be a separate "chrome.exe" process for each Google Chrome tab that you have open.

This is how Google manages the separate process and memory spaces for each individual tab.

Ah yes, I forgot about that. Strangely, it appeared as if I only had one tab open though, but I noticed that my browser had crashed previously or something like that. Maybe that's why the other process was running.

Thanks for the clarification.

No problem, sometimes if you close all your windows really fast, an instance of chrome.exe will remain for 5 - 10 seconds in your process manager as well.

Thanky, I was wondering about this little quirk as well.

How come the additional processes aren't killed when I close the tab?  I've got one open tab but 3 chrome.exe process still running.  Just curious - seems inefficient to me. A bug?

Sometimes when ending an instance of one of the tabs, chrome takes a little while to shut it down so it'll remain there, if you wait a little (a minute at most usually) they will go away.

You can also make chrome use only one process by using Google Chrome's Command Line Switches.

Thanks for clarifying, TYPELiFE. And the link, --single-process rules!
