Chrome losing tabs between sessions

I'm having problems with Chrome losing tabs between sessions, despite having the settings set to "restore the pages last opened" in options.
Since I started using Chrome, I've had the options set to "restore the pages last opened" for what to display on startup, and it's worked well up until about a week or so ago. Suddenly every now and again it would rather than starting up with all the pages I'd last been using, opening only one tab (my home page). At first it seemed to be an intermittent problem, but when it did it there'd been nothing unusual about how Chrome had closed down, and everything had appeared to be working normally. The past few days though I've found that every day when I come to switch on the computer and start up Chrome, I'm only getting just one tab with my home page. There are some sites I tend to use quite frequently and I more or less have them open most of the time, but I didn't want to use the option to open set multiple sites on startup, as sometimes I'll also have other pages open as well that I'm using. If I remember to bookmark them as soon as I find them, it's not too bad, though still annoying having to spent time opening them all up again, but if I've found a site and found it useful, and then left it open to refer back to later on and I've not gotten around to bookmarking it, it can be very annoying and time consuming trying to find the same site again!
Is this a known issue/has anyone else experienced this? (or have I just got something weird going on on my laptop/copy of Chrome?) Anyone know if there's any kind of workaround for this?
