The first rule in moving people from one platform to another, is supporting their existing behavior. MOST heavy firefox users use bookmarks, and almost always from the sidebar.  I simply will not be able to use Chrome with only this awkward, mostly unusable top bookmarks bar which does not go multiline, and where you cannot drag and drop tabs into subfolders.

If any extension developers want to get moving on this, I will gladly help.  I'm not the best coder, but I'm a damn good CSS stylist and app designer.

I just find it hard to believe that Google would treat something to core, as an afterthought, or leaving it to 3rd parties. Anyone have intel on this?

You can order your bookmarks in subfolders already, though, and I'm sure someone will come out with an extension soon enough to put the bookmarks on the sidebar.
