Title: AdSweep.crx Extension for Chrome
Post by: calande on April 03, 2009, 04:14:42 AM
Hello,

The AdSweep.crx (http://www.adsweep.org/AdSweep.crx) extension for Chrome is ready for those of you who use the dev-channel. To install the extension, close Chrome, open the command prompt, go to the directory where you have your Chrome installation (where chrome.exe resides), and type:
Code:
chrome.exe --install-extension="C:\path\to\AdSweep.crx"
Then, open the properties of your Chrome shortcut, remove your current command flags and use this one instead:
Code:
--enable-extensions
You can start Chrome and access chrome-ui://extensions/ to see AdSweep listed. Then you can access a web site that is famous for having lots of ads (e.g. http://digg.com)
Enjoy! ;)

How can one edit or import blacklist/whitelist from AdBlock?

It's not compatible, both products work differently, AdSweep doesn't have a list of URLs, see: http://www.adsweep.org/#w (http://www.adsweep.org/#w)

I've no lucky on using it. Installed it, but it doesn't appear to be filtering anything.

I'm on Dev Branch, ver.: 3.0.182.3

Any solution? :|

Would be good for it having an visual aspect. I mean, icon or anything else!

Do you see the red notification on top of the AdSweep.org page? What version of Chrome are you using? What steps did you follow exactly to install AdSweep?

I can only think of ads that use weird ad patterns and that AdSweep doesn't catch yet. Do you have any specific URL to share with us to take a look at? Do you see ads on www.distrowatch.com (http://www.distrowatch.com) and on www.digg.com (http://www.digg.com) ?

Ok, if the AdSweep home page says your AdSweep is enabled, and if you see ads on Digg, there's definitely something weird going on. When you're on Digg.com, hit Ctrl-Shift-J, then in the Developer Tools, click the [>=] button in the status bar at the bottom to show the console. You should only see the Facebook error message:

Quote
Unsafe JavaScript attempt to access frame with URL http://digg.com/ (http://digg.com/) from frame with URL http://www.connect.facebook.com/extern/ ... ceiver.php (http://www.connect.facebook.com/extern/login_status.php?api_key=19b362842033594b14e94ce5ac70d7d3&extern=2&channel=http%3A%2F%2Fdigg.com%2Flogin%2Fverify%2Ffacebookconnect%2Fxd_receiver.php). Domains, protocols and ports must match.

Do you see any other error message?

It's just weird :)

Could you show me a screenshot of the top of the AdSweep home page, and another one for the Digg home page, please?

Hum...If you could send a screenshot of [list type=][li]AdSweep (I mean, it's to see the upper-right corner <Quoted Image Removed>)[li]Digg (Because Digg's ads are removed only with CSS selectors, so it's less likely to break)[/list]

But I see that your screenshot of AdSweep doesn't display the leaderboard banner on top, while Distrowatch displays the ads, which is very strange to me, it should either work for all web sites or none Powered by SMF 1.1.10 | SMF © 2006-2009, Simple Machines LLC
